He chaired Ladakh Conclave on Youth Policy, Education and Jal Jeevan Mission on Tuesday. Ladakh is amongst four states committed to complete the mission by August next year.
LG RK Mathur assigned top priority to completion of Jal Jeevan Mission in Leh and Kargil districts. In a high-level conclave, he reviewed the mission progress, in which Jal Shakti Ministry secretary Bharat Lal also participated virtually.
Mr Mathur said JJM is formulated with more flexibility with intentions to provide safe and standard drinking water to every household before India’s 75th Independence Day. He said, that States and local governments are allowed to take appropriate decisions to complete the formalities without compromising on the quality. He tasked the district level executive authorities to monitor the progress at micro level on daily basis.
Jal Shakti Secretary Bharat Lal said in two years of announcement of the Mission, number of tap connections grew from 17 to 40 per cent in the country. He appealed the UT administration to utilise funds to connect all house holds with functional taps. UT secretary Ajeet Sahu made a presentation on Jal Jeevan Mission progress, concerns and roadmap.
To over come the pendency in DPR preparation and works allotment, the conclave discussed involving Panchayats, Hill Development Council, central procurement of materials and skill development for asset management. Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Kargil CEC Feroz Ahmed Khan, Leh CEC Tashi Gyaltson, Advisor Umang Narula and Senior officials of UT Administration have participated in the conclave.
