The Sensex of Bombay Stock Exchange closed above the 48,800 mark while Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange settled above the 14,600 level. The Sensex gained 28.35 points to trade at 48,832. The Nifty50 also appreciated 36.40 points to trade at 14,618.
The broader market at the BSE also surged. The Midcap index rose 1.17 per cent and Smallcap index added 1.05 per cent. In BSE Midcap Glenmark and Godrej Industries gained more than 6 per cent while CRISIL declined by 2.13 per cent. In BSE Smallcap DCM Shriram and Hester Bio gained more than 15 per cent. On the other hand, Tinplate declined by 5.53 per cent.
In Sensex shares, 18 shares out of 30 companies gained. Asian Paints is the top gainer as it gains more than 2 and a half per cent followed by the Ultra Tech Cement and ONGC which climbed more than 2 per cent, Sun Pharma surged 1.94 per cent, HCL Tech rose 1.88 per cent and M&M gained 1.62 per cent. On the other hand, ICICI Bank declined 1.77 per cent, Bajaj Finance declined 1.29 per cent, and Larsen slipped more than 1 per cent.
In BSE sectoral indices, 15 out of 20 sectors climbed. The Healthcare sector gained the most and added 1.88 per cent followed by Utilities which surged 1.35 per cent, Consumer Durables rose by 1.33 per cent and Power added 1.28 per cent. On the other hand, Capital Goods stocks plunged 0.39 per cent, Real Estate declined 0.38 per cent and Private Bank stocks fell 0.23 per cent.
