Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has congratulated the sarpanchs from 19 districts of the state for controlling the spread of covid-19  in their respective villages. Sarpanch Gajanan Wankhede of Govardhan village from Washim district shared the success story of his village. Govardhan is a village in Washim district with a population of 3900, which had 509 active Covid- 19 cases on 15th April.

While trying to contain the spread of Covid-19, Sarpanch Gajanan Wankhede decided to conduct a door to door survey. Each and every villager got tested with the RT-PCR test. Regular disinfection exercise and Covid appropriate behaviour by villagers made the village covid free. The last Covid patient was found in the village on 26th May. Today, Govardhan has no Covid patient.
Sarpanch Gajanan Wankhede assured to work with all the villagers to keep the village free from Covid-19. For this, the village level committee has taken initiative to vaccinate citizens above 45 years of age. As a part of this drive, 77 % people above 45 years of age have been vaccinated in the village so far.
