During this pandemic, India has taken care of the needs of the world along with its domestic struggle, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi while holding the virtual summit with his Finnish counterpart Sanna Marin today.
“Last year, we sent medicines and other essentials to more than 150 countries. And recently we have reached more than 58 million doses of vaccines made in India to about 70 countries,” the Prime Minister informed while affirming the commitment to continue to support the whole of humanity as per the nation’s capacity.
Delineating the blueprint for the future expansion and diversification of the India-Finland partnership, both the leaders agreed to have strong cooperation in areas such as technology, innovation, clean energy, environment, education to bolster all the sectors for global economic recovery in the post-COVID period.
Highlighting the Indo-Finland relationship, the leaders noted that the close relations between the two countries are based on shared values of democracy, rule of law, equality, freedom of speech, and respect for human rights. They reaffirmed their strong commitment to work for multilateralism, a rules-based international order, sustainable development and combating climate change.
Prime Minister Modi also appreciated Finland's leading role in clean and green technologies, and noted the potential for Finnish companies to partner India's drive towards sustainable development. In this context, he suggested enhanced cooperation in the areas like renewable and bio-energy, sustainability, edu-tech, pharma and digitization.
Deliberating on India’s ambitious goals in renewable energy to targeted 450 GW installed capacity by 2030, PM Modi said,” we have taken initiatives like International Solar Alliance and Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure to increase international cooperation and urged Finland to join ISA and CDRI to benefit the expertise in Finland's competence and expertise.”
The two leaders also discussed the Covid-19 situation including their respective vaccination drives, and emphasized the importance of global efforts for urgent and affordable access to vaccines across all nations.
