Delhi Weekend Curfew: Capital tightens curbs to contain COVID-19

In an effort to contain the spread of coronavirus infection, Delhi will  remain under the curfew over the weekend starting from 10 pm today till 5 am on Monday in which non-essential movement of people will be prohibited and all non-essential shops will remain close.

Apropos the order by Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), even on weekdays all malls, gyms, assemble halls, restaurants, and spas will remain shut until 30th April, while cinema halls will be allowed to function with 30% capacity on weekdays. Furthermore, dine-in facilities in restaurants will be barred and only home deliveries will be permitted. Those rendering essential services will be provided curfew passes.

During the weekend curfew, keeping the wedding season in mind the movement of 50 people will be allowed in wedding-related gatherings and gatherings of up to 20 people for funerals. 

The restrictions were announced on Thursday by Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after he held a high-level meeting with lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal along with other senior officials to review the Covid situation.

Here’s what allowed during the weekend curfew

1) Over the weekend, there is a complete restriction on the movement of all individuals except government officials, journalists, police personnel, sanitation workers, judicial officials, and all others engaged in essential services can travel on the production of a valid identity card.

2) People engaged in essential services like banking, telecommunication, home delivery of essential goods, including food and medicines, and people going for Covid-19 vaccination will need to show a valid curfew e-passes. 

One can obtain the passes online by applying on www.delhi.gov.in. 

3) Delhi Metro and DTC among other public transport facilities would be allowed to function over the weekend curfew but carrying only those moving for essential purposes. The same will be applied to cabs and auto-rickshaws. All inter-state and intra-state transportation of essential and non-essential goods will be allowed without any additional permission.

4) Emergency health care facilities, such as hospitals, nursing homes, diagnostic centers, medical clinics, pharmacies, and related services will be operational. Doctors, nurses, emergency room staff at private clinics will be allowed to continue their activities. Pregnant women and patients can commute for getting medical and health services

5) Essential shops like groceries, dairies, stores selling fruits and vegetables, bakeries, and confectionaries will remain open, adhering the Covid-19 appropriate behavior in their premises.

6) Banks, ATMs, print and electronic media, internet cafes, broadcasting, IT and cable-related services shall be allowed to function along with E-commerce delivery services on condition of adherence to proper protocol.
