The number of deaths in a single day is the highest since May 9 when 56 deaths were reported in the country.
The number of new infections is also the highest since April 26 when 3306 people were found to be corona positive.
The sample positivity rate increased to 14.80 percent on Monday.
The death toll in the country has gone up to 13,172 and the total number of infections is over 8.29 lakh since March last year when the first corona case was detected in Bangladesh.
However, the number of active COVID 19 cases in the country is 47, 970 which is 5.8 percent of the total cases.
The infection rate in the bordering areas of Bangladesh continued to be a cause of concern with several districts reporting over 40 percent sample positivity rate on Sunday.
Bagerhat, Satkhira, Chuadanga, Narail and Kurigram reported an infection rate of over 40 percent. Other districts like Jessore, Jhenaidah, Khulna, Kushtia and Thairgram among others showed an infection rate of over 30 percent.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Zahid Maleque told media in Dhaka that Bangladesh will start vaccination with the Chinese Sinopharm and the Pfizer vaccines from June 19.
